As you enter the space into the lower floor of the store, you are welcomed by an alluring arched window which provides a glimpse into the entire floor.

The color palette is neutral with an oversized sofa placed in the center of the space, a theme followed throughout the store. The oversized round rug by Space Warp accented with Jay’s artwork is a statement piece and a topic of conversation.

The columns are made to look padded and exaggerated using foam and canvas fabric with the reception desk framed using oversized draped fabrics and concrete blocks.

The rest of the lower floor has a raw concrete floor with black metal rods to display all the Jaywalking clothing as well as Jay’s personal handmade art pieces.

The design of the store conceptualized collaboratively by the two firms, led by architects Shiraz Jamali , Mammen Paul, Farheen Nanji and interior designer Naazish Nanji aims to achieve the look of a more refined basement art studio, with Jay’s artwork displayed throughout the store in effortless ways.

The designers have made unique uses of fabric in the form of column cladding and unexpected drapes around the staircase and reception areas generally giving the elements a more chunky, oversized look which also translates into the furniture pieces. The oversized circular mirrors frame the glass archway at the entrance which amplifies the natural light pouring into the store.

Staircase

As you walk up the wooden staircase, a sheer drape gives a glimpse of the display upstairs which consists of clothing, artwork and a podcast/filming corner with oversized orange armchairs and planters. The most attention-grabbing piece within the upper floor is the “Beautiful Lady” sculpture, a concept by Jay which holds a spot in all his stores.

The upper floor has a large table specifically placed so that the designer can use it as a workspace or a place to unwind with colleagues or friends. The wooden flooring provides a sense of warmth to the space.

Corner interview

The upper floor has a corner for podcasts and interviews and also a spot for people to be seated and work or unwind at the store. The designers have given this space a more unconventional feel with purchasing products as not the only purpose behind the store. It’s a space for people to hang out, browse the latest collections and appreciate the one-of-a-kind artwork.

Perched atop the staircase you’ll find a sculpture of a “Beautiful Lady” conceptualized by Jay which now has a spot in each of their stores. The same motif continues onto the custom made 10-foot-wide rug and onto the smaller details like the doorknobs.

Designer space

The overall colour palette is completely neutral with tones of grays, beige, and whites. The pop of colour in the space comes through via the oversized orange sofa and armchairs. The idea of having certain elements that were eye catching and decided to balance the color palette by adding the brightest color to the most exaggerated pieces.
